To BB or Not to BB…

April 19, 2012

That is the question for today’s Girly Things Thursday.

One of my favorites asked me about BB creams yesterday so I figured if she had a question maybe someone else might too!

You may have heard about these(fairly new) creams that are on the shelves and in magazines that are all the craze in the beauty world. But if not let me give you a quick run down of this product.

BB creams:

BB creams moisturize, even and restore skin tone, brighten complexions, hide any redness or blemishes, protect against UVA and UVB rays, and leave skin looking flawless. BB creams — or beauty balms — originated in Germany, where dermatologists used them to help treat laser surgery patients. This all-in-one product soon found its way into the hands of Korean actresses, and the craze spread like wildfire. Now available in the U.S., it’s no surprise that BB creams are causing quite a stir in the beauty industry.

In essence a BB cream is a tinted moisturizer that is an all in one of products you may already be using anyway. Your moisturizer, SPF, tint or foundation are all in this packaging but labled “BB” for “beauty balm”. The important thing is to look at what is in your product depending on what you’re needing in a moisturizer. Skincare ingredients vary, but can include hydrating ingredients such as hyaluronic acid, brightening ingredients such as Vitamin C, and antioxidants. These are key when you want to have a more even skin tone.

My advice if you’re wanting to try it but don’t want to spend a lot is to go for a less expensive version like Garnier or Maybelline. Just use a little on your cheeks and jaw line to test for coverage and how the product reacts to your skin. You shouldn’t need more than a pea size to cover your entire face.

With any new beauty product it’s best to find what works best for you and how it makes you feel. You don’t have to buy the most expensive one to really see results or have the best. A lot of the cost is in the name, but you are the only one who can decide what is right for you. Happy product hunting!

Have you tired or heard of BB creams?

Yes! I usually use the Korean Brands though. They have great coverage! I’m not too sure about the american ones that recently came out but as for the Asian brands, they always come in shades that are very light, but sometimes oxidize to your skin tone. I’m interested in trying the MAC BB. any reviews on that?
