It’s nice to get out-of-town once in a while. I prefer long vacations or even just a few days off of work to relax and mark off things on my to do list, but having a one day “mini-cation”( I just made that up, but you can use it too;) can be all I need to recharge and unwind.
That’s what we did this past weekend. Travis and I had to work until late Friday( I’m talking 9 pm) night but had plans of visiting my parents in Alabama. So when we got off work we packed up the car and headed south! It’s a three-hour drive, but we decided it was better to just go ahead and get there late and sleep in rather than wake up extra early. I’m glad we did, because I wasn’t too tired after work anyway so we were able to wind down in the car.
Another reason it was good to leave Friday was because we had a busy day Saturday. We had plans to watch our Alma mater(App State) play in Birmingham. It was a good game and App won! I felt bad for the other team though, since it was their homecoming, but whadaya do?
After the game we had reservations at the Highlands Bar and Grill. The food was good, but it was too dark to attempt taking pictures to share. I got the flat iron steak, but my favorite was the salty chocolate cake I had for dessert. It was TO DIE for!!!
Sunday we left after breakfast because we had pumpkin carving plans with friends.
We all had our dogs with us and they played while we were all busy carving away. Turns out dogs love pumpkin and Harper stayed close for any extra carvings that may have fallen in between playtime.
I went with the easiest pattern and it turned out great!
I try not to get too detailed with my pumpkins or they fall apart, but Earl is a winner! Yes, Earl is the name of our pumpkin;)
After a fun weekend I was exhausted. My mom had just finished reading Gone Girl and gave it to me so I started reading before bed but was too tired and only read the first 10 pages.
So far it sounds really good and I can’t wait to read more. I love a good mystery;)
