We’re already in day three of the new year and it’s been pretty good so far.
This year I decided to make a few intentions rather than a lot of goals to help me stay focused and be more present. Normally goals involve envisioning a future outcome in the world or in your behavior, then planning, applying discipline, and working hard to achieve it. Intentions are paths or that focus on how you are “being” in the present moment. Your attention is on the “now” of life. You set your intentions based on understanding what matters most to you and make a commitment to align your actions with your inner values.
Intentions:
- Let go of stress and fears that hold me back from trying new things.
- Be more patient.
- Practice being non-judgmental of myself and others.
- Choose to be happy.
They seem like pretty basic intentions, but for me patience and letting go of stress are things I struggle with all the time. I’m getting better at not getting too wrapped up in life and being in my head, but it’s a growing practice I hope to continue with this year.
As for goals my list is pretty short and includes:
- run 2 half marathons
- read a book a month(this month it’s The Corrections by Jonathan Franzen)
- perfect a few advanced yoga poses
Yesterday I started on my second goal by getting a library card.
Another goal is to not spend too much money so it’s a win win;) I’m not quite sure why I haven’t been to the library to get a book before(minus when I was a kid), but this will be my go to place unless I want a new book.
Whether you have intentions or goals this year I wish you luck! It’s going to be a great year!
Do you have any intentions or goals this year?

I really love this post. And I’m stealing the graphic for my FB page because we can all use a reminder of this.
My intention: say “no” and avoid committing to things that I don’t really want to do.
My goal: create a dedicated sewing space.
LOVE your intention! I over commit too and mostly to things that I’d rather not do.
I don’t know why I never go to the library either. I used to be an addict as a kid! I’m going to have to follow your lead here! The idea of intentions is fabulous too!
And they have eBooks too to check out if you have an Ipad or Kindle.
Looks like you’re setting yourself up for an absolutely fabulous year! Happy 2013
