Goals for 29

September 24, 2012

Fall is finally here and I can tell not only because of the cooler weather and changing colors on the trees, but in my non stop sniffles.

I didn’t have any issues until we got back from our trip last night and for the rest of the evening I was sniffling and blowing my nose. Not the most fun way to finish off my 29th birthday evening, but with the Emmy’s on, my Coat Throat tea, and my new free subscription of Better Homes and Gardens I was happy as a clam.

Besides the seasonal cold the weekend was really fun!

We headed up on Friday after work and once I got off work I had every intention of getting my cake fix on, but instead grabbed a gluten free lemon square on an iced coffee stop.

These are so good and my inspiration for the ones I made. These are a little better though. And since my lunch wasn’t very filling I packed up some hummus and pita chips for us to snack on just in case traffic was crazy and we were hungry.

The next morning I had a very filling breakfast Travis’ mom made that was almost like an oatmeal bowl but had tons of grains and seeds like millet, buckwheat groats, chia, flax, and sesame seeds, cinnamon, etc. This held me over for a while.

The reason we were in NC was for my best friends’ baby shower so after breakfast I drove about an hour to go spend the day with her and party down baby shower style!

Can you guess what she’s having? Haha, I am so excited for her and plan on spoiling this little girl rotten. The gifts she got were all so cute. I love little booties and shoes, so adorable. Another favorite was the food.

I ate this plate plus some. I loved the chicken salad cups. Pretty much anything bite size has my heart;)

I got to spend the whole day with Hannah and catch up with some other friends which is always nice. It was such a great day!

Sunday I woke up and found this guy waiting for me.

Birthday cake dog was cute, slightly creepy, and a little dry, but helped me start my 29th birthday. We had a long trip back to Atlanta ahead of us so after breakfast we got back in the car and made our way back home.  Harper was sad to leave, but once she got her head out of the window all was forgotten.

For my birthday I knew we’d be in the car so I kept my wish list extremely low maintenance. All I wanted was the Whole Foods hot bar for lunch.

I say low maintenance, but if you’ve been to the Whole Foods hot bar you know it can be just as pricey as a nice fancy dinner. Oh well, I’m sticking with the low maintenance story;) There’s one halfway into our trip so it was perfect timing and put a smile on my face. I also opted for vegan chocolate pudding for dessert instead of cake.

It was good, but not sure it was better than a good ole slice of birthday cake.

Back in college I had a list of “Things to do before 30″, and it included things like:

  • Get married
  • Have kids
  • Sing in public-sober
  • Have a career started
  • jump out of a plane
  • See an Opera
  • Visit Europe or another Continent

So while we were driving Travis asked when I wanted to jump out of a plane or if I had any goals for the last year of my twenties. I don’t want to jump out of a plane anymore and I’ve done the bolded items on the list so I’ve got to get a few more checked off.

I also have  a few more goals I want to add for the 29th year like:

  • Run a half marathon besides the one on Thanksgiving
  • Take more Yoga classes
  • Eat cleaner foods and avoid unnecessary sugars
  • Hand write letters to people I care about so they know I care
  • Trust that I can do anything that I set my mind to
  • Take better care of myself

For the most part I do all of these things, but I could always do better and challenge myself to do more for me.

Twenty nine is going to be great!

Does it crack you up that you wanted kids before 30? My mom had me when she was 25… but I can’t imagine having a 4 year old right now!

I really love your goal about hand-written notes. I always feel special when I receive one. It’s one of the reasons I love Foodie Penpals!

It really does make me laugh that I had a set age for kids. haha I’m a good 3 years aways(at least) and am totally fine with that. I need to sign up for Foodie Penpals, I love the idea.

Happy birthday! Where do you take yoga classes? I’d like to get into that too.

It was so good to see you this weekend. You always keep me laughing girl. So you got me thinking when you listed your Things to do before 30. There are a number of things I would love to do as well. So I will be working on my list this week. Thanks so much for the inspiration Heather.
