Girly Things Thursday: Stop Picking

March 29, 2012

So the title of today’s Girly Things Thursday may seem a little odd, but bear with me. I’m talking about picking at your skin and blemishes. We all do it and I’m just as guilty, but hopefully by the end of this post you’ll come to see the error of your picking ways and leave your skin alone.

Between stress of ending school, lack of sleep, and my allergies my skin has BLOWN up.

I know from my skin mapping that my since my breakouts are on my cheeks that it’s mostly from my allergies extra congestion in my lungs. Normally I would pick my blemishes, but that is the worst thing to do and can prevent my skin to heal on its own.

The problem with picking blemishes is that it’s unsanitary and infection can set in, causing a bigger blemish. When you have a zit forming the first things most people do is try and “pop” it. If it looks like a bug bite and is red leave it alone. Most of the time it will go away on its own, but if you pick and prod it will become inflamed and stay even longer. Even if you see “white” but there is a lot of redness around the area leave it be. You will only cause the blemish to come back because it’s not ready just yet.

For the time being just leave your skin alone and wait for your blemish to go down on its own or come to a head with very little red or pink. I would insert a picture to show you, but you can Google that yourself. I didn’t find any pics I thought you would want me to share, but you can decipher which ones to extract and which ones should be left alone.

In the mean time, use just a really good concealer and dab on the area not rub. Set with powder and you’re good to go.

You can also use Ella in a cute pic to cover blemishes that you feel are unsightly.

Too bad I can’t take her everywhere with me. That would probably draw more attention than a pimple, and I would be considered a crazy cat lady. Even more than I am now;)

Loving the shade of your hair – looks so natural, which I hope to attain one day! :)

Thank you! I’m gradually going lighter, but really love an ashier blond.

I think the Ella advice is some of your best work! ;) It’s so hard not to pick but I’ll think about your advice if I’m tempted.
